10 Things I’m Loving in this Season of Life

Life can easily feel monotonous when every day looks the same. I watch a lot of “day in the life” videos online and I’m obsessed—why does their ordinary life seem so exciting? That morning coffee or skincare routine suddenly feels magical. Recently, there’s been a trend to romanticize your life, and I’m all in. I do many of the things I see in those videos, but I rarely pause to appreciate them. Lately, I’ve been slowing down and savoring the little things, because ultimately, those are what make up my life. So here’s my spin on a “day in the life”—10 little things I’m loving right now that make everyday life feel a bit more special.

1. Libby

I’m in my reading era. I’ve always loved books, but it’s gotten harder to carve out time for reading. Still, any time spent with a book is time I never regret. My secret? I read every night before bed. Once I’m tucked in, I put away my phone and turn off the TV—this is my reading time. I’m obsessed with my Kindle; it’s easy on the eyes and perfect for winding down. Funny how I can binge-watch shows for hours, but a few pages of a book and I’m out like a light.

A few years ago, I got a library card for the first time since childhood. Not only did I start saving money on books, but I also discovered Libby—an app that lets you borrow e-books from your local library. Now I have an endless supply of reading material, all for free.

2. Nuuly

I’ve recommended Nuuly to so many people that most of my friends are now subscribers. It’s a clothing rental service where I pay about $100/month for six pieces. I wear them as much as I want, then return them and get six new items. The brands are amazing—Anthropologie, Free People, and more. It’s perfect for events, work trips, or just refreshing your wardrobe.

There’s a bit of a learning curve with sizing and narrowing down choices (you can spend hours browsing), but once you get the hang of it—and build virtual closets in the app—it’s a breeze. I even used Nuuly during pregnancy, which was a lifesaver with constantly changing sizes. You can use my referral code for $30 off your first month subscription.

3. Sentence a Day Practice

I’m so passionate about my Sentence a Day practice that I wrote an entire blog post on it. I’ve been doing this for 13 years—just one sentence at the end of each day. You can buy a dedicated book or use any notebook. It’s a simple ritual that helps me reflect, express gratitude, and document life’s moments.

I’ve recorded everything from big milestones—meeting my husband, graduating, having kids—to random Tuesdays when work was tough. It’s a beautiful way to see how the days add up to a meaningful life.

4. Favorite Fall Candle

This fall candle is everything. It smells like cozy evenings and crisp air. I light it every night after dinner, and it instantly transforms the house. For some reason, I used to “save” candles, but this one has brought me so much joy it’s worth every burn.

Bonus: I use a candle warmer, which adds ambiance and makes the scent even more luxurious. I’m now committed to finding a candle that makes me feel this good in every season.

5. Morning Walks (or Whenever You Can)

Back to those “day in the life” videos—the girls are always out walking in cute outfits. I used to think I didn’t have time, especially since I already work out every morning. But I wanted to try, and my dogs clearly did too. So I started waking up a bit earlier and adding a short walk after my workout. It’s just 15 minutes, but it’s one of my favorite parts of the day.

Getting outside, listening to a podcast, and moving my body feels amazing. This is your sign to make time—even just 15 minutes—for something you’ve been wanting to do.

6. Survivor

Yes, the TV show. I grew up watching Survivor every Thursday with my family—it was my favorite night of the week. Now, 20 years later, it still is. During COVID, my husband and I started watching old seasons and got hooked (again, for me).

If you’ve never watched, let me just say: 49 seasons in, it’s only gotten better. The twists, the strategy, the contestants—it’s genius. Find your version of Survivor (bonus points if you share it with someone you love). Nothing brings us more joy than knowing we have a new episode to watch.

7. Tiny Tags

I’m consistent with the jewelry I wear and my favorites are my pieces from Tiny Tags. They’re simple, elegant, and engraved with my kids’ names. I wear them daily and often find myself touching them throughout the day—it’s a sweet reminder of my little ones. Something so simple brings me so much joy.

8. Mahjong

This summer, I got intrigued by Mahjong—a tile-based game with beautiful designs and fun accessories. I love games, and Mahjong felt like the perfect upgrade to our usual girls’ night dinners. I found someone to teach me and my friends, and after a few lessons, we’re hooked.

If you haven’t tried a new hobby lately, I highly recommend it. Even better if it’s something you’ve been curious about—just go for it!

9. Barefaced Skincare

I’ve mentioned Barefaced before, but it deserves another shoutout. Their skincare routine is streamlined into four essentials: toner, vitamin C, retinol, and sunscreen. It’s easy, effective, and my skin has never looked better.

I’ve been using Barefaced for nearly four years and now go makeup-free most days (except for their tinted moisturizer). I also love that their products are safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding, making it easy to maintain my routine through every phase of life.

10. Ending the Night with Green Juice

To wrap up this theme of romanticizing life—one of my favorite nightly rituals is sharing a green juice with my husband. After the kids are in bed, we mix up our favorite blend and sip it while watching a show. No matter how the day went, I know I’m getting some greens in.

I serve mine in a fun glass with a straw, which makes it feel like a treat. It’s a small act of self-care that makes me feel grounded and good.

If you’ve never made a list like this, I encourage you to try. Writing this post helped me realize how much joy the little things bring—and how they shape my everyday life. It doesn’t have to be big or fancy but having a list like this is a great reminder on tough days or when life feels dull.

I hope you found some inspiration here. Until next time, XXX McKenzie
